This story lies in Qinbi Village,Ma Zu,in the 1970's in the Republic of China.This village lies between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.So,although the Taiwanese people were already living in peace and prosperity,this village was still frequently under air and fire attacks.Occasionally the debris of the bombs might kill people, but for most of the time the bombers only dropped leaflets to encourage people to surrender. Usually,the villagers would collect the leaflets and sell them to the government to get the rewards for being patriotic.

Jin Quan is a single father with a young son.He is full of imagination and always had faith in his life. This is also his attitude towards problems. He often brags about his heroic deeds everywhere,like how he escaped the attack of poison gas in the fight against the pirates, how he found the hidden treasure of the pirates, and how he saved President Chiang who suffered poison gas and became the hero of the village, or how he dived with the grenade to detonate it underwater and rescued the other people.

Many years ago, Jin Quan's wife deserted her husband and son and left Ma Zu for Taiwan in search of a better life. Jing Quan wanted to find a mother for his son,Dan Dan.He actually likes Nina,the lady who runs a shop selling ice in the village.Nina is also a single mother with a daughter,Xiao Ni. Nina's husband died 6 years ago in an air attack, which was a blow Nina could not bear. Since then, she suffers from narcolepsy and easily falls asleep as an escape.

By the time Jin Quan made his move to Nina, words came that a plague has attacked Taiwan and was spreading very fast.The villagers began to worry and suspect others around them. Masks and drugs were sold out everywhere.To show his bravery, Jin Quan volunteered himself to be the supervisor of an educational plague prevention campaign. He leads a group of soldiers and called themselves Nomituan, who actually are a group of gluttonous, lazy ex-servicemen. Jin Quan wanted to win Nina's heart, but when he was bragging about how well he had done, Nina was hurt in an air raid and was sent to the hospital. The hospital was quarantined because of the plague, so Jin Quan had to give up his plan.

However, Jin Quan and Nomituan decided to take care of the ice shop and Nina's daughter,Xiao Ni as a backup plan and sold coffee in the ice shop. As the situation worsens, the villagers also became more worried and started behaving weirdly, like drinking coffee frantically or turning to superstitious predictions. At the time, an expert from Taiwan also quarantines the village. A diabetic patient was even asked to leave Ma Zu for Taiwan to be quarantined.

The villagers also wrapped themselves tightly in their clothes despite the heat, fearing that others might infect them. They were caught with distrust. Everyone refuses to even go out on the streets and finally the village became a ghost town.

Jin Quan was very depressed by this, but when Nina returned from the hospital,it gave a big boost to everyone. However, on the same night,Nomituan saw Nina's scratchy and suspicious wound and they were so frightened that they fled. Jin Quan was upset about it,but he could do nothing much about it.

Nina had a fever because of the wound inflammation and was discovered when she went to the pharmacy. The village head suspects that Jin Quan and Nina had both got infected by the plague.

So,the village head, the expert and Nomituan decided to isolate Jin Quan and Nina and send them away. But fortunately,they hid in the air-raid shelter and didn't get caught.However, when they were felicitating themselves about it, Nomituan tells Jin Quan that Dan Dan got lost on his way to the turtle island when searching for him.

Jin Quan could not find Dandan everywhere in the village, so he went to confront the village head and accidentally revealed a shocking secret about the village head.

Was Dan Dan dead? What was the village head's secret? Would Nina and Jin Quan's love come to a good ending? And how would Jin Quan save the beautiful Qinbi village from falling apart?
