Synopsis

If you search for Better Than Sex (BTS) on internet, you will find an opera of G.Donizetti by the same name, which also happens to be a comedy about love, but revealing a completely different story.

Better Than Sex, which stars Michael, is almost as fantastic as a rhapsody. These days, when the number of cinemas which are willing to release local films are only a handful, the story of BTS has successfully drawn people's attention. An integration of love, eroticism and violence, the seemingly serious movie has a lot of hilarious moments, it even borrows the Japanese street fancy shows on its heroine. Overall, it is very different from the general Taiwan movies that are heavy and reflective, and there are also some heartwarming scenes beyond the hilarious ones.

The cast of this movie are almost all singers, which means that the movie has boldly incorporated music as its major element. And when you have finished watching the movie, you can only say that the director has a unique eye on the selecting of actors. Moreover, it is probably due to the fact that the director also happens to be the screenwriter of this movie, that he knows more about the story he is telling and what characters he expects.

The movie production also made a great effort on its promotion strategy. The director has attended all kinds of promotional events with his actors, while Michael and Jia Qian even went to the middle south of Taiwan to promote the movie, and in Taipei the audience even had a chance to talk to the director and actors face-to-face after watching the movie.

Although this movie has been receiving quite contrary responses, and there are a lot of criticisms rising from the conservative people who guard the traditional values, the response from the audience remains the true indicator. We can see that besides the recommendations on the internet, there are a bunch of boisterous youngsters dying for this movie. They are under 18 and are not allowed to see this movie, but this restriction seem to have got the contrary effect, and reports say that this movie has been a black horse in its domestic box-office performance!

As the leading actor in his second film, Michael's performance is truly remarkable and full of surprises. His first role is the 17-year-old Lin Zu Zhuang, who studied so hard and forgot everything around him. Lin searched high and low his whole life for the meaning of his life until he met his only friend,Zheng. After Zheng died with a broken heart, fate finally led Lin Zu Zhuang to his true love.

His second role is the elder brother in a Japanese band named 'Tomato Brothers', who always wears a tomato-headwear. This role might be a reflection of what Tan Xiao Ying expected Lin to be.
