26.11.07 - Chinese stars kick off music fest

KUALA LUMPUR: Live & Loud KL 07, touted as the largest and longest running music festival in South-east Asia, kicked off yesterday with the Chinese All Stars segment.
Some of the 2,000 fans came as early as 3pm, despite it being a hot afternoon, just to get good seats and standing spots at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Park here.
The concert kicked off with a mellow tune performed by Huang Qi Shan and Andrew Tan.
The tempo went one notch higher when popular local-born Michael Wong came on stage and belted out some of his hits which got the crowd screaming and dancing for about 30 minutes.
Soon after, another internationally-known local artiste Fish Leong came on stage before passing the microphone to pop sensation Taiwanese Zhang Hui Mei or more popularly known to her fans as A-Mei.
Dressed in a black micro-mini skirt and a white shirt, A-Mei had the crowd screaming even louder as her four dancers performed some seductive dance movements to her upbeat numbers.
A-Mei told a press conference later that she was honoured to be a part of the 10-day music festival where many international artistes come together and perform.
"Although we are all not performing on stage together, it is a great honour to be part of this concert and performing alongside big names in the music industry," she said.
The concert came to a close at about midnight.
Other big names lined up for this mega event include Whitney Houston, Elliott Yamin, Shaggy, K-Ci & Jojo, James Morrison and Rick Price who would be performing at other locations in the coming days.

IT'S going to be the curtain raiser for the country's biggest ever music festival and based on the line-up alone, Live & Loud KL 07's Chinese All Stars night is certain to kick it off with a bang.
Set to be held at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Park on Nov 25, Chinese All Stars gathers the who's who in the Cantonese and Mandarin music scene — Zhang Hui Mei (AMei), Michael Wong, Fish Leong, Victor Wong, Andrew Tan, Zhang Zhen Yue, Claire Kuo, Vincy Chan Kenny Kwan among others — and all of them are set to rock the house with a whopping sevenhour musical extravaganza, from 4pm to 11pm.
Fresh from the release of her latest album, Star, A-Mei is all set to enrapture the audience with her trademark high-energy performance.
The Taiwanese singer, long a commercial darling, recently bagged the 'MTV Legendary Diva' title at the MTV Mandarin Awards.
Not to be outshined is our local boy, Michael Wong, who has enjoyed tremendous success in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore and Taiwan.
His last album in 2006, Commitment, sold more than 1.5 million copies and the 37-year-old is also listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the "Malaysian male composer with the most number of awards."
His third studio album, Fairy Tale, was also awarded the 'the best selling Chinese album award.' Fans of Fish Leong will also get to see her in action. With nine albums to her credit, Fish needs no introduction.
Winner of the 2005 Singapore Golden Hits Awards for Most Popular Female Singer and Most Popular Regional (Malaysia) Singer, she is certain to rock her fans with her hits as well as her new numbers.
Chinese All Stars is part of Live & Loud KL 07, which is the largest music festival in South East Asia.
It is expected to draw a screaming horde of fans when the stars converge for the first time ever in the Klang Valley.
It will run from Nov 23 to Dec 2, and each passing day greets festival-goers with a solid 60 to 90 minutes of live music play from different genres, repertoires, venues and performers.
Live & Loud KL 07 is unique, as the event is organised for all age groups. Divided into three different categories — Main Events, Thematic and Fringe Events, Live & Loud KL 07 will be a truly amazing sensory experience for music aficionados, as they indulge in the sight and sounds of famous celebrities — international, regional and also local.
Music enthusiasts can choose to go with friends or family members for the main events — Chinese All Stars, Turn on the Pop and the World Music, Heritage & Culture; or enjoy the thematic events which encompass Best of 80s, Acoustic, R&B and Jazz.

Malaysian Chinese singer Michael Wong Guang Liang released a new album, "Never Apart," on Tuesday.
In the album, Guang Liang carries on his infectious love ballad style.
Taiwan pop singer Fan Wei Chi attended the ceremony in Taipei to give him her support.
Formerly known as the one half of the mandopop duo Michael & Victor (Wu Yin Liang Pin), Guang Liang said at the ceremony that he and his former partner Victor Wong were both focusing on solo careers, and were not considering a reunion.

Today, Brastagi is very crowded. There is no hotel room available, all rooms are booked and the parking lots are full of cars. The weather is quite cold even though the sun is shining.
At 11.00 WIB sharp, helicopter that took Guang Liang to Brastagi landed on the grass. The star gave everyone his famous warm smile, all fans responded with screaming and shouting. Everybody kept on shouting while the idol was crowned by orchids. All the time he kept on waving and saying hello.
Audience was very enthusiastic. Almost everybody took pictures with their handphone, they did not want to miss the moment. After arrived in Mikie Holiday Hotel, Guang Liang had his lunch, before rehearsing at 12.05.
"Aplaus" crew also did not want to miss the moment, taking pictures during the rehearsal. He's really fascinating.
After rehersal, Guang Liang attended the meet and greet session. He wore a dark red Polo shirt with a tie. This low profile star from Ipoh-Malaysia has just honoured as a spoke person for Malaysian Tourism Board.
The singer and composer of Di Yi Ci interacted with the audience before the concert. He Tong Hua and Yue Ding together with the audience. This really increased the audience's excitement.
At 17.15 sharp, Guang Liang started the concert. He wore an eye catching silver coat. The audience gave a tremendous applause. The opening song was Yue Ding.
For more than 2 hours, Star Theater Mikie Holiday was transformed into a magical place. In this concert, Guang Liang sang 13 songs, pure without lip sync. This show was really beyond our expectation. Everybody was amazed and fascinated, especially when he played digital piano. It's really superb. The audience was full of emotion, adrenaline was high that night. Everybody wished Guang Liang's concert can be held again in Medan

"Music is very special"
Everybody looked very relax when "Aplaus" went to see Guang Liang in the backstage. He's very friendly and always smile. Probably because he just got 5 awards in 2007 several weeks ago. Unlike other celebrities, Guang Liang always answered the question in a very straight forward way and his answers were not typical. Below is the excerpt:
A (Aplaus): Congratulation! You just won 5 awards at 4 August 2007. How do you feel?
G (Guang Liang): Thank you. From the 5 awards, there are 2 awards that made me very happy. The first one is Metro Radio Mandarin award of Best Karaoke Song Award to me and Wei Lan for the song called Yi Ge Ren Zou. This song has 2 version, Cantonese and Mandarin. This is my first Cantonese song (the award is for the Mandarin version). I feel very happy (he's laughing) This is my first collaboration with Wei Lan, but the result is very good.
The second one is the Metro Radio Singer of Asia Award. This award is special since I received it along with the senior that I respected so much, Andy Lau and Richie Ren. When I was little, I often watched movies and listened to Andy Lau's songs. I cannot believe that I can get the same award as him.
A: There is a Korean artist who dubbed Tong Hua, even the MV (Music Video) was similar to yours. What do you think about that?
G: (smiling) Yes, there are 2 Korean artist sang the particular song with the same title. I learnt about the MV from my fans. I am happy because I didn't expect the song and the MV made such a deep impression to other people. In the opposite, there are lots of Japanese and Korean songs which were dubbed into Mandarin version. Oh yes, Atari Kosuke, the Japanese artist, also dubbed the song and include it in his/her new album. This October, he/she will come to Taiwan to promote this album and he/she asked me to become the guest star and sing the song together.
I feel music is very special because it can unite people from all over the world, even they do not know each other. I want to share a story with you. When I've composed the song and the lyrics has not been completed, I like to use vowel as a demo (Guang Liang performed Yue Ding as an example)
People think it is a kind of language but it's not (laughing)
A: When do you usually get the inspiration?
G: (laughing): Wow.. many times especially when the recording company asked me" When do you plan to release your new album? Can you compose the new song as soon as possible?" Sometimes I composed the song due to the time pressure, but mostly it's due to the urge from the heart. Then I started playing piano.When I played, all the molodies will come out by themselves. All the songs that I wrote in this way usually made people touched like Tong Hua and Dou Shi Ni. That;s why, it took me long time to release a new album because I always wait for the urge from my heart
If I have to write the song, it feels like doing the homework. Then I will feel the song is not touching enough even to other people it's good. I always feel that composing the song is part of life, not part of work. That's why I never forced myself to release a new album
A: Lots of artist asked you to write them a song. Why do you cater their request? Is there any song that you feel unused and it's better for it to be sang by other people instead of you?
G: No, I never composed a useless song. If I felt that it's not good, I will just throw it away. There's always people who asked whether there is a useless song and I always said no.
To compose the song for other people, I need to have view and feeling to match it with their voice. Again,I will compose it due to the urge of my heart. Usually the song for other people will have different style from mine. Once I wrote a song for a person and he/she didn't use it. So I sang it by myself. Then people came and asked me" How come you can write such a good song?" Therefore sometimes I purposely composed song not for myself and I will purposely sang it, so it will feel more special (joking)
A: Which song do you think is the most special ?
G: All songs are special. I can tell you all the stories behind every song that I wrote. But if you asked me to choose one, I will choose Tong Hua. That song made me understand more about my taste and style in composing music.
After so many albums have been released, I sometimes felt bored. This kind of feeling is different from before, when I was not a singer. In the beginning of my career, I never felt afraid of whether my album would be accepted by public. One day, when I was bored, I talked with a composer. At that time, I realized that that we 're supposed to write the song when our mind is full of worries.We just think of simple thing. So in the end, every time I write the song, I always imagine the moment when I was nobody (laughing). Tong Hua is one of proof. And even though it's not a guarantee, I always use that method.
A: Have you tried to change your music style?
G: Yes, I have/ I tried quite a lot in the Guang Mang album. I also tried to include different music style in all my albums, like 2999 De Shen Dan Jie (Tekno), Ai Shang Ta (Rock), Dan Lian (Folk), Peng You Shou Ri Fong (R&B).
Strangely, people loved love songs more than others. When I wrote Tong Hua, I thought of changing my music style. I think all singers have their own style. I will always keep my style and hope that people will feel that my songs are special..
A: Have you thought about putting additional music element like rap?
G: Once, I did rap during the recording process. (laughing) But I do not intend to include it. I have to feel true every time I sing a song. That's my favourite feeling. It's so easy to add rap in the music, I only have to find a rap producer. But up until now, I cannot find any reason to include rap
A: You have done so many concerts everywhere. Do you still experience stage fright?
G: Yes, sometimes. Be it's a small or big concert, I can still experience stage fright. It's because my voice need to quite a long time to warm up. Maybe it's quite difficult in the first 2 songs, but after that everything will go smoothly. I also had a nose allergy (sinusitis???) which can affect my vocal. Every time I feel nervous, I feel like I was back to my school days, during the final examination, when I only have one chance.
A: So, what is your method in handling the stage fright?
G: I always calm myself by saying to myself that everything will going to be all right. Then I will concentrated and not worry if I'm out of tune. I'm very sensitive to melody but in every live concert there's always an out of tune melodies.
A: How do you cure stress from work?
G: Usually I chit chat with my friends. I'm a thinker but I will try not to think about it and let myself focus to other matters. After sometime, the problems will be solved by themselves. Sometimes I also doing exercises.
Frankly, I cannot sleep every time I make a new album. Once there was somebody who helped me compose the song when I lost my inspiration, but I felt that it didn't fit in. That night I dreamt of composing a very beautiful song. When I woke up, I realized that it's only a dream. I felt so disappointed that it's only a dream and not reality. I tried to remember it but I still cannot recall.
A: What is your plan in the future?
G: I will do concert in Shanghai at the 1st of September (before that it's in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia). I hope I can hold concert in more countries. I plan to hold a concert in Beijing in 2008, but all stadium are renovated due to Olympic. So I have to wait for another 2 years.
I hope I can release my new album this year. The album that I produced is almost finished. Next year, I plan to release a single album. I will write several new song and this single album will be uniquely packaged. I have lots of plans in the future (laughing) unless nobody wants to listen to my songs. BTW, I never thought that lots of Indonesian love my songs. I just know that now, after coming here. For me, this is a new start. Next time, if I release a new album, I will ask my manager to send it to the media in Indonesia. Hope I have a chance to come back here.
A: If you asked to change 3 of your bad behaviors, what would it be?
G: One is the carelessness which always makes me angry. Second, I always need a long rest after completing something. This makes people think that I am lazy. I do not know whether I should change it or not. The third one is fast talking. I always talk very fast especially when I'm on stage.
A: You will have your birthday at 30 August 2007. Name your 3 wishes
G: Wow… you asked me to name quite a lot of wishes (laughing). Once there is somebody who asked " What award do you expect to get in this event?" I feel that I do my best because of God's guidance. There is a song called " God is watching us" and I really believe it. God knows what we're doing. If God wants something to happen, it will happen. So my first wish is that I can keep writing songs. Second, I wish my family and all my loved ones will live happily. Also for the people who love me, hope they always be happy. Finally, I hope everybody start caring about other people and their surrounding, not being selfish. I, myself, always try to do that.
A: Any messages to your fans?
G: I'm very happy to be able to be close to all the fans. They're not the usual fans. They understand me. When I did not release any new album for a long time, they did not even give any pressures. Saya sangat bahagia bisa begitu dekat dengan semua fans. Mereka bukan fans yang biasa saja. That's because they understand that I want to produce the best album. Sometime I feel that they understand me more than I understand myself. They, the fans from Taiwan, even gave me a birthday present, 5 years ago, by creating MIFC (Michael International Fans Club). This fans club is getting bigger and bigger after lots of fans from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia joined in. I do not know whether there're any fans from Indonesia who joined in. However, when MIFC from Malaysia came here, I heard fans from Indonesia also helped them. Once in Taiwan, when the fans from Japan and other countries came, they told me that the fans from Taiwan helped them. I'm so happy that I can unite people who initially do not know each other.
A very humble artist

The artist, who was born at 30 August 1970, is amazing. We're quite surprised to find that he is very humble. He's not arrogant, he's smart and very nice..

At that time he didn't look like an artist at all but more like a common people with huge talent. He sometimes joked, laughed, and sang the song for us. He also shared stories about his journey to the stardom, the struggle, and his future plans, like releasing new albums and the concert that he'll hold this year. We're very fascinated. Guang Liang's attitude is similar to the proverb that said" The higher a man stand, the lower his heart should be"

At the concert, Sherly sang Dui Ni You Gan Jue (I Have a Feeling For You) with Guang Liang. The song was perfectly sang. "Believe it or not, I cannot sleep for three days, waiting for this to happen." said Sherly who confessed that she practiced non stop. " I'm very proud to do this duet. It's an unforgettable experience, even I feel very nervous"
The girl who was born at 7 Juli 1988 promised that she will keep on singing. "This moment has motivated me to keep on singing," she said, after performing the duet. She jokingly said that if possible, she will not wash her hands.

Guang Liang's World Tour Concert is finally reaching China. For the 'Guang Liang's Fairy Tale Commitment Shanghai Concert' which will be held soon on the 1st of September, Guang Liang spent half of this year training up. On the 16th of August, he finally announces his farewell to his 'skinny' body. Whether it is the muscular arms, a tougher chest or 6-packs muscle, Guang Liang has a quite prominent result of all, making many people surprised. Guang Liang who all the while conceals his body underneath clothes, revealed himself surprisingly today in a work-out singlet and sport trousers, reveals his new fit body after half-a year of hard work of training. Under the guidance of a gym-instructor, when Guang Liang lifts a dumbbell, the muscles in his arms were revealed, making everyone amazed. Furthermore, Guang Liang who at first did not want to reveal his six-packs muscle, got his muscles 'inspected' by a female colleague under the beseech of the media. Eventually, even his singlet was lifted up and made Guang Liang feel quite embarrassed.
For this first-time concert in China, Guang Liang trains up with all of his heart to give his Shanghai fans a surprise, hoping that during the concert, he will look better in the performing outfits. During the half-year period, Guang Liang averagely goes to the gym about once in two or three days. While other singers are there to lose weight, he is there, however, to build up his body instead. Other than eating three meals each day at the correct time, he also emphasizes on absorbing nutrients from beef and high protein drinks in order to get the body he has today.
As for whether will he 'take off' his shirt during the concert to perform, Guang Liang replies with the air of a gentleman, "It depends on whether the audience would like to see it. If yes, then maybe I would give in to the audience's request.But again, what does singing love songs got to do with undressing?"
Because Shanghai is Guang Liang's first stop in China, he specially prepared some surprises for them. For instance, the concert will have a brand-new opening act and also inviting Jiang Mei Qi to duet with him in the song 'Dui Ni You Gan Jue'. Also, in order to keep the air of mystery, Guang Liang only reveals, " I will launch my new album soon in October, but the fans in Shanghai might be the first ones to listen to the new single!"

To make up for all his fans' beseech, Guang Liang's World Tour Concert will be held in Shanghai in September! To make it special, Guang Liang personally and specially designed his concert's poster. 'Hopefully after seeing it, everyone will feel touched by it!' Besides that, in order to thank his fans for their support all these while, this time the title of this concert was as voted by fans on his website. 'Guang Liang's Fairy Tale Commitment Shanghai Concert' soon became to surface as the favourite choice. Also, to compensate his fans in China who had all been waiting for a long time, Guang Liang will specially sing a new song during the September concert in Shanghai. In other words, the audience in this upcoming concert in Shanghai will be the first lucky ones to listen to Guang Liang's new song.
To follow up the concerts held last year in Hong Kong and Malaysia which received warm comments and feedbacks, Guang Liang finally keeps his promise to his China fans this year by staging a concert in Shanghai in September. To face his first stop in China, Guang Liang meticulously makes sure that everything goes well. Other than promising an interesting experience to fans during the concert, he also specially and personally designed the concert's poster. He says, "I hope that after everyone watches my concert and listening to my songs, it will be like after reading a book or watching a movie, with it touching your heart after it is over." Furthermore,to make up to his China fans who had a long wait, this time the title of the concert is specially voted by fans themselves. On the day the poll was open at Guang Liang's official website, thousands of fans flooded the website to pick their choice, clearly showing their eagerness towards Guang Liang's concert. Among the choices provided by his recording label were 'Guang Liang's I Am Who I Am Commitment Shanghai Concert', 'Guang Liang Fairy Tale's Commitment Shanghai Concert' and 'Guang Liang's Fairy Tale Commitment Shanghai Concert'. After opening the poll for everyone to vote, the title 'Guang Liang's Fairy Tale Commitment Shanghai Concert' became top choice among fans by receiving multiple votes, almost reaching 70% in the final results. Therefore, Guang Liang's recording label then picked 'Guang Liang's Fairy Tale Commitment Shanghai Concert' as the concert title this time to comply with the fans' wishes. On the 18th of May, Guang Liang and Janice (Wei Lan) went to Hong Kong's Tai Mo San park to film the music video of their new song 'Tong Mung' (Childhood Dream). This is Guang Liang's first time recording a song in Cantonese. When asked if he had any pressure when recording this song, he leisurely said that with the help and advise from the producer, Mark Lui, he will enjoy the recording process as much as possible.
Janice who had to participate in numerous promoting activities, was quite elegant and beautiful on-screen. After knowing him for two years, she finally had the chance to collaborate with Guang Liang. She expressed that she is very happy about this, while both of them also praised each other non-stop as well.Looks like this great collaboration filled with so much chemistry between the

Guang Liang who was in America for a week was homesick and because of the unfamiliar climate and weather,eventually he was sick because of a nose allergy that did not get better even with some medicine.This even caused Guang Liang to go through a really long vocal training to sing again.But when it was time to perform,his voice was unexpectedly clear and loud when he sang and carried out his 'special guest mission'.Guang Liang felt really relaxed and cheerful despite being sick when he was in America because he did not have to participate in other promotional activities.Besides that,he can also enjoy three meals a day with ease and stroll outside leisurely.In this total foreign place,Guang Liang did not have to worry that other people might recognize him.Not only that he doesn't have to cover up,but he can also leisurely go wherever he wants to go to look around,making him feel really relaxed and contented.
But because the concerts in Atlantic City and Las Vegas were held in casinos,the performance time were also very uncertain.There was a performance by Guang Liang at 2 a.m. in the morning,but because of the time difference (Taiwan time : 3 p.m.),he was bursting with energy.But there was also another performance at night at 7 p.m. (Taiwan time : 8 a.m.).But because of the time difference again,Guang Liang just couldn't fall asleep during the day.That's why when it was nearly time for his performance,he almost dozed off!He sighs,"What to do?I really am very sleepy!".At last when he was on stage with the cheers of the audience below the stage,he was awake and enthuastic again.

The noise in the stadium was thunderous. The 10,000-odd fans in the Putra Indoor Stadium at Bukit Jalil were clapping as hard as they could, banging their plastic tube balloons together in unison, and screaming at the top of their voices: “Guang Liang! Guang Liang! Guang Liang!?
And the concert hadn’t even started yet.
The crowd had cause to be impatient for, after all, Taiwan-based Ipoh lad Michael Wong, better known as Guang Liang, had once made a promise to come back to Malaysia and hold a solo concert, and that night he made good on that promise.
Michael Wong, also known as Guang Liang, tinkering on the ivory keys at his solo concert in Bukit Jalil on Saturday night.
Needless to say, the Michael’s Commitment Live in Malaysia 2006 was a rousing success, and the first of two shows on Saturday night was definitely a memorable one not just for the fans who came from all over Malaysia (and even from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China), but also for the singer himself.
From the moment he stepped on stage to the moment he finished with the encore, the crowd never let him rest, and the affable singer never let them down either, singing almost 30 songs in total, all of which were his own compositions.
Wong appeared for the opening number Angel clad in a white-hooded robe, and sang with an unknown backup singer clad in a black-hooded robe ?a concept that enhanced the atmosphere greatly.
Unfortunately, the great opening was slightly marred by the singer going into dance mode immediately after that. Thankfully, Wong is not exactly known for his fast songs and slick dance moves, and the medley of three dance numbers he sang were the only ones that required a semblance of choreography throughout the concert.
Taiwan-based Ipoh boy Wong gave an unforgettable concert which drew fans from all over Malaysia, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
Almost the entire concert consisted of ballads, punctuated only by the guest appearance of singer-songwriter Chen Qi Zhen. In fact, the one gripe I have about the show was that there were too many ballads. While each of the songs was memorable in its own way, there came a point when there were so many similar-sounding ballads that they seemed to meld together into one long song instead.
Take nothing away from the 36-year-old though ?his forte is certainly love songs, Thankfully, he also had enough other recognisable hits in his repertoire to lessen the monotony. While the biggest cheers of the night were reserved for his greatest hits, like the award-winning Fairytale, Courage, Heaven and Commitment, the crowd also went wild for his older songs from his Michael and Victor days such as Palm, Want to See You, and Every time I Call You.
Other highlights of the concert were the heart-warming “fillers?in between costume changes that featured Wong’s childhood pictures shown on the big screen as well as the amazing “starry?atmosphere around the hall created by the audience holding up their mobile phones (during a song called Handphone Message), and the one-song encore at the end of it all during which Wong sang a previously unreleased song called I Am What I Am.
The guest segment by the adorable Chen was another interesting interlude that saw her singing two songs as well as Rasa Sayang together with Wong.
All in all, judging from the concert on Saturday, Wong definitely kept his promise and gave the fans exactly what they’ve waited so long for. However, perhaps the most remarkable thing about the entire show was the fact that the fans kept up the volume of their cheers almost throughout the entire show, not even stopping when the singer was not on stage.
Now that’s commitment for you.
